From the Publisher of
The Detroit News
Dear Reader,
At The Detroit News, we are changing the way we deliver news and information to our readers. The changes will help us through these extraordinary economic times, as well as position the newspaper to better serve the needs of modern news consumers.
And most importantly, the changes will allow us to continue the 135-year-old tradition of providing high-quality journalism to this region.
These are not merely cosmetic changes. We will be significantly altering our delivery system and placing a greater emphasis on using evolving technologies to connect us to our readers, 24-hours a day.
The printed newspapers will be more efficient and easier to navigate - designed for today's time-conscious reader. Our enhanced digital products will be more nimble and relevant and will be available on numerous platforms.
We will continue to print a newspaper Monday through Saturday, just as we do today. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, those papers will only be available at newsstands and coin boxes. There will no longer be home delivery on those days, but we'll provide subscribers with online access to an electronic version of the newspaper.
On Thursdays, a much more in-depth Detroit News will be available to both home delivery subscribers and retailers and coin boxes. On Friday, we'll home deliver an edition of The News.
As I said, these are significant changes. But what hasn't changed is the commitment of The Detroit News to provide aggressive and complete coverage of one of the greatest news towns in America. We've been doing that for a long time. We hope that you will continue to turn to us as your trusted, credible and comprehensive source of information, whether in print or online.
I know you will have questions about what we're doing. I encourage you to visit www.detnews.com/transform to find more information and share your thoughts about our plans. The easiest way to reach me is by e-mail. That address is publisher@detnews.com.
Longtime readers will remember our signature slogan, "If you read The News, you know." That's still true. But now, you can read us when, how and where you want.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Wolman
