IN LOVING MEMORY OF LAWRENCE R. SPIRA, M.D. Age 74, died August 30, 2009 one year ago today. He died after a long battle with prostate cancer, surrounded by his loving family at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica, California. The son of the late Samuel Spira and Lillian Lewis, Larry was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 17th, 1935. The loving husband of Brenda and proud father to Sam and Laura; grandfather to Danielle and Simon. Dr. Spira grew up in Detroit Michigan and moved to California to study medicine. He graduated from the CA College of Medicine in 1965, completed his internship at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital and practiced medicine in California. From 1965-1971 he was a base physician in the U.S. Air Force, and Chief Psychiatrist to the TAC F-4 Phantom Jet Base at George AFB, California. Dr. Spira owned several medical groups and subsequently developed many successful Kidney Dialysis Centers. He worked hard his whole life and was an extremely gifted doctor, passionate about medicine. Other passions included spending time with his family and friends, piloting his planes, sailing, tennis, traveling, making deals and truly enjoying his life. He lived every moment to the fullest. Dr. Spira and his family had homes in Florida and Pacific Palisades, California. He always stood for what he believed was right and true and for this we shall forever cherish his memory. His loyalty to his family, friends and business associates was one of his greatest attributes. Friends and colleagues would describe him as a mensch, a person with admirable characteristics, honorable, noble and decent. His success came because he lived well, laughed often and loved much. We will forever miss you and love you our loving husband, father and grandfather.
