OFFICIAL RULES
1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR TO WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR ODDS OF WINNING. ALL FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL AND MUNICIPAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS APPLY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
2. Eligibility. Subject to the additional restrictions below, $ummer $timulus is open to Michigan, Ohio and Canada residents only who are 18 years or older at the time of entry. Employees of Detroit Media Partnership, The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Gannett Co., Inc., Media News Group and each of their respective affiliated companies, and advertising and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of, and any persons domiciled with, any such employees, are not eligible to enter or to win.
3. How To Enter. The Sweepstakes will begin at 12:01 a.m. (E.S.T.) on October 11, 2009 and end at 11:59 p.m. (E.S.T.) on November 19, 2009 (the “Sweepstakes Period”).
Mail Entry: To enter, complete an Official Entry Form appearing in the print and digital editions of the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News every day from October 12 to November 15, 2009. Participants must provide name, address and phone number. E-mail address is optional. You also may enter by hand printing the same information on a postcard or 3” x 5” card or piece of paper and mailing it to “GAS UP” P.O. Box 198, Detroit MI 48231. All entries must be postmarked no later than November 16, 2009 and received no later than November 19, 2009 to be included in the grand prize drawing, All mailed entries for weekly prize drawings must be received no later than 5 p.m. each Wednesday during the Sweepstakes period. No facsimiles or mechanical reproductions permitted. Only one (1) entry per stamped envelope.
In-Person Entry: Enter in person by visiting the Detroit Media Partnership office in the Lobby of 615 W. Lafayette, Detroit MI, between 10 AM and 3 PM Monday through Friday during the contest period, completing an Official Entry Form, and depositing your entry form in the designated entry box. Deadline for in-person entry is 5 p.m. each Wednesday during the Sweepstakes period for the weekly drawings. All in-person entries for the grand prize drawing must be received by 5 p.m. on November 15, 2009
You may enter the Sweepstakes as often as you like but only one (1) prize per person
Sponsor will not be responsible for incomplete, lost, late, “postage-due,” misdirected or illegible entries or for failure to receive entries due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind, including, without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, hardware or software, whether originating with sender or Sponsor. All entries become property of Sponsor and none will be returned. Any questions regarding the number of entries submitted shall be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, and Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Sweepstakes.
4. Winner Selection. One (1) Grand Prize Winner; and 25 (25) Weekly Winners [5 per week] will be selected in random drawings. The Grand Prize, Second Place and Third Place Winners will be randomly selected after November 19, 2009, from among all eligible entries received. The Weekly Winners will be selected each Thursday during the Sweepstakes period, from among all eligible entries received as of 5 p.m. on the previous Wednesday.
5. Prizes. One (1) Grand Prize of $2,500.00; and Weekly Prizes consisting of 25 (25) of $100.00 each. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
6. Winner Notification and Acceptance. The Grand Prize, Second Place and Third Place Winners will be notified on or about July 8, 2009 at the telephone number or email address provided on their respective entry form. Weekly Winners will be notified each Thursday during the Sweepstakes period – from June 10 to July 8, 2009, at the telephone number or email address provided on the winner’s entry form. Sponsor will call during regular business hours at number provided on entry form and will leave no messages. Failure to reach winner by phone or email may result in disqualification of winner, forfeiture of his or her interest in all prizes, and selection of a substitute winner from among all remaining eligible entries. To claim prize, all winners must complete an IRS form w-9, and Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability. Prizes are non-assignable and nontransferable. No substitutions allowed by winner. Winners are solely responsible for reporting and payment of any taxes on prizes. Failure to sign and return the affidavit or release, or to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules, may result in a winner’s disqualification, the forfeiture of his or her interest in the prize, and the award of the prize to a substitute winner. Except where prohibited, acceptance of any prize constitutes winner’s consent to the publication of his or her name, biographical information and likeness in any media for any commercial or promotional purpose, without limitation the Internet, or further compensation. Prizes not won and claimed by eligible winners in accordance with these Official Rules will not be awarded and will remain the property of Sponsor.
7. Participation. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify persons found tampering with or otherwise abusing any aspect of this Sweepstakes as solely determined by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Sweepstakes. Should the Sweepstakes be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, Sponsor reserves the right to award prizes based on the entries received before the termination date.
8. Construction. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any such provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable, these rules shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.
9. Sponsor. GAS UP is sponsored by Detroit Media Partnership. The decisions of Sponsor regarding the selection of winners and all other aspects of the Sweepstakes shall be final and binding in all respects. Sponsor will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these Official Rules or in other materials relating to the Sweepstakes.
